Thanks, but no thanks

Today's news-scroll-of-horrors turned up something new quite nearby ...

Holy cripes! Portland is WAR RAVAGED???!!!! Here I am only a couple hours away and I had no idea.

Of course I quickly went to access the plethora of live webcams of Portland, available to view globally on the internet, in order to witness images of this Portland hellscape. I needed to see the ravagement for myself.

Expecting the usual fires burning in barrels and people running around screaming, glass and fire everywhere, residents bunkered down in terror for their lives, instead I came across this:

That's Pioneer Square, looking positively well ... hmmm, peaceful? Pedestrians? People lounging on chairs? Traffic acting like normal, food trucks, non-hellscape traffic ...

How utterly bizarre.

And distressing. I hope someone tells the President that spending millions to send troops to the city is ... oh what's that term again? Waste, fraud, and abuse? Yes, that's the one.

You know, I recently I read that following formal complaints, Portland's permitting bureau conducted an investigation into conditional land use agreement violations by the local ICE facility. They concluded that the facility had violated the agreement 25 times and submitted a formal notice to ICE/DHS which could lead to fines or a hearing.

Now correlation is not causation ... but I do have to wonder if this might be the "siege" Trump is actually referencing.

Rebecca Solnit, who has been writing some amazing pieces these past 9ish months had a funny one today poking fun at this not-actually-funny turn of affairs.

That's all for today from Oregon ...
